Dear Coronation Public School families,
We have been made aware that in early January 2022, the Region of Waterloo and the Cambridge Shelter Corporation will use the Kinsmen Children’s Centre as an Emergency Shelter System’s Quarantine and Isolation site. This site will be available for those who are experiencing homelessness and need a place to isolate.
The Kinsmen Children’s Centre is located on Concession Street next to Coronation Public School. The buildings are separate but Coronation’s playground surrounds the former Kinsmen Children’s Centre. The Region of Waterloo discontinued its childcare operations at the Kinsmen Children’s Centre in August of 2021 as part of a broader plan to remove themselves from the business of providing childcare.
We wanted to communicate this to our school community to ensure understanding of this important initiative. We will share any feedback and concerns with the Region of Waterloo and the Cambridge Shelter Corporation. Based on the measures in place, our staff believes the use of the former Kinsmen Children’s Centre in its new capacity will not impact daily school operations at Coronation Public School.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at maria_lotimer@wrdsb.ca.
Sincerely,
Maria Lotimer
Temporary Principal
