Happy Friday Cool Cat Families,

This has been an exciting week at Coronation with many things going on.

Today was photo day. If your child missed having their photo taken today, re-take day is November 17th.

On Wednesday, Mrs Berg’s grade 2 class went on a field trip to the Museum, while staying at school the entire time!

Yesterday, our junior students participated in Student Vote. Mr Kundra shared that he loved talking with students about what would make Cambridge better. Their ideas ranged from ending homelessness, adding more bike lanes, better play equipment, and rapid buses. Mr Kundra added that “Learning about democracy from a young age allows [students] to learn about the rights and responsibilities of citizenship [and] practising voting encourages students to vote when they are eligible”. Thank you to Mr Kundra and our junior teachers for creating this opportunity for our students.

We started Glee Club this week. Glee club is open to our grade 4, 5, and 6 students. No singing background required, just a passion for gleefulness!

We also have a student leadership club that has started for our grade 6s. They have been hard at work creating posters to advertise “ER day” and preparing to MC our next spirit assembly.

Coming up on Monday, we first want to wish our Sikh families a Happy Bandhi Chhor Divas and our Hindu, Jain, Sikh, and Buddhist families a Happy Diwali!

Monday is also a PD Day as well as the Municipal Election. We look forward to seeing our students back in the building on Tuesday next week.

A couple notes from the office:

Families, please check on School Day to ensure that you have completed all of the School Start Up paperwork. Classroom teachers will be reaching out to families who have missing forms.

We will be making a change to when we have our School Council meetings. After surveying the members who attended this month, we have decided to move our meetings to Thursday evenings. Our next meeting will be November 10th at 6:00PM in the library and open to all Cool Cat family members. If a virtual option is requested, we can provide that for families.

We also will be looking to start Pizza Days next month. Information will be sent home on School Day soon.

Next Friday is our Monthly Spirit Assembly and Spirit Day. Our Spirit Day is “-ER Day”. Students and staff can use their creativity to dress as something ending in –er. Some ideas from previous years are Pokemon Catcher, Earth Lover, Farmer, and Unicorn Tamer.

When dressing up for spirit days, please remember that costumes should be free from face masks and weapons (toy swords, guns, shields, etc.), they should not be frightening to our younger students, they should not appropriate another’s culture, and should be easy for the child to wear, not requiring the assistance of school staff to help the child change into/out of.  Thank you for your understanding.

We are continuing with a Fundraiser that began last year for Loveable Labels. Please click this link for more information.

Our Spirit Wear online store is up and running! Please use this link to access our online store. https://coronationapparel2022.itemorder.com/shop/home/?success=true

Next week is our last week for our Menstruation Drive.  We will continue to collect menstrual pads, tampons, cloth pads, hot water bottles, and heating pads until Friday, October 28th in support of www.truenorthaid.ca, an organization that supports Northern Canadians with practical humanitarian support.
