Messages from the Office

Once a Cool Cat, Always a Cool Cat

We will be saying farewell to some of our Cool Cat staff members this year. We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from and work alongside these incredible educators, and we wish them the very best in their new roles and adventures.

We say farewell to Mrs. Berg, Mrs. Abid, Mr. Donkers, and Mme Olagunju.

We wish Mrs. Berg all the best in her retirement. We are hopeful she’ll return to drive her school bus for any “inside the school” field trips that classes may plan in the future!

We wish Mrs. Abid well as she moves on from Coronation at the end of her Long Term Occasional position. We thank her for all she’s brought to our school and Extended Day.

Mr. Donkers will be moving to WT Townsend in the fall, where he will be teaching Grade 4/5. We send him thanks and wish him all the best in his new role.

Mme Olagunju will be finishing her LTO at Coronation and heading into new opportunities next year. We thank her for all she’s brought to our school and wish her well — bon succès, Mme O!

We also wish Mrs. Jetter, Mrs. Kruis, Ms. St. George, and Mrs. Pownall well as they take time off next year to focus on their growing families. We look forward to welcoming them back to Coronation for the 2026–2027 school year.

Report Cards Coming Home Today

Report cards are coming home with students today. Please take some time to review and celebrate your child’s progress this term.

Attached, you’ll also find an information letter about early reading screening. Reading is a key skill for student success. Following the Ontario Human Rights Commission’s 2022 Right to Read report, the Ministry of Education has mandated that all students in Kindergarten Year 2, Grade 1, and Grade 2 be screened using an evidence-based tool. In the WRDSB, we use the Acadience Reading tool to support this work.

Please take a moment to read the attached letter for more information. https://www.school-day.com/pg/file/view/3152785

Summer Office Hours & Information

Although Mr Flett and Mr Trudel will be hard at work inside the building, Coronation and its office will be closed following the Friday, June 27th PD Day.

Admin and office staff will be returning the week of August 18 and will be able to respond to emails at this time.

Coronation’s office will be open the week of August 25 – 29th.

First Day of School

Wednesday, September 3rd is the first day of school.

Please watch School Day, our Instagram and our Website cor.wrdsb.ca at the end of August for information about the first day of school and class list information.

Back-to-School Transitions

To help make the return to school a smooth one, some students will be invited to take part in a short transition visit on the September 2nd PA Day. These visits are typically for students with IEPs that include a transition plan, or for students who need a bit of extra support getting settled.

Our Special Education Resource Team will be reaching out to families to schedule these visits. If you don’t hear from us and feel your child would benefit from a transition, feel free to email me directly at jenni-rebecca_baer@wrdsb.ca

Class Lists and Class Placement Requests

Class lists will be shared through School Day on the morning of September 2nd.

Thank you to all the families who submitted class placement requests during the spring. That process was open from April through June, and we’ve done our best to take those into account.

At this point, we are not accepting any requests for changes, and we won’t be making class moves before or during the first week of school.

Our focus in those first few days is on confirming enrolment and ensuring stability for students and educators. Once enrolment is finalized and we’ve received direction from the Board, we’ll be in a better position to have any further conversations.

Thanks for understanding and for your support as we get the school year started.

Extreme Temperatures

It’s been hot today! With the warm weather expected to continue this week, we’re keeping student and staff well-being at the centre of our decisions.

While some of our school is air conditioned, it’s still feeling warm indoors. We’ve been encouraging students to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and take it easy during outdoor breaks. When we’re outside, we’re sticking to the shade as much as possible and avoiding strenuous activities.

We’re continuing to follow the WRDSB’s Responding to Extreme Heat Conditions procedures and will adjust our plans as needed each day.

School Supply Drive

Thank you to those who have donated to our School Supply Drive. We will continue to collect supplies to be distributed amongst classes to ensure everyone has access to new supplies in September. We are looking for the following items:

Crayons, pencils, pencil crayons, erasers, glue sticks, tape, kleenex, binders, highlighters, markers, dry erase markers, duotangs and folders. Donations can be dropped off at the office.

Thank you in advance for your support with this.
