As we reach the end of the 2024-2025 school year in the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB), we want to celebrate and recognize all that we have accomplished in support of student learning, achievement and well-being, and share our best wishes for the summer. Each day in the WRDSB, students enjoy welcoming and safe classrooms where they are supported in their learning and growth. They start each school day knowing that a team of caring adults are there for them and available to help.

It has been an incredible year of many successes for WRDSB students and we want to thank every staff member for their dedication and commitment. WRDSB staff, we invite you to pause and reflect on the many ways that your work has made a positive impact for students. It is your hard work and collaboration that enables WRDSB students to be successful.

With the end of the school year, we bid farewell to Student Trustees Lakhanpal and Luo and are grateful for the work they did to ensure that decisions made by Trustees were informed by student experiences and needs. We look forward to working alongside incoming Student Trustees Trivedi and Kaur in the upcoming school year, as they bring the student voice to the Board table.

In September we will welcome students, staff and families to our newest school: Willow River Public School in Kitchener. The same will be true of the new New Cambridge Joint Elementary School in Cambridge, which is expected to open in September 2026. We are excited to watch this building take shape over the next year.

This summer, it’s our hope that each of you will find opportunities to rest and recharge, and return in September ready for another exciting year of learning and student achievement in the WRDSB.

To the students who are graduating from the WRDSB, we wish you success as you step out into the world, whether that means moving on to employment, university, college, travel, or beginning an apprenticeship. To the students that will be returning to school in September, we hope that you are able to find time during the next two months to connect with your friends and family, relax, and do the things that you enjoy most.

To the staff members who are retiring this year, we want to express a huge thank you for all that you did throughout your careers to contribute to the achievement and success of WRDSB students. For staff that will be working through the summer, and everyone who is preparing for a September return, we look forward to our continued work together. Through your efforts, every day students across our system uncover a love of learning and build the skills they need to achieve success in learning and life.

We wish parents, families and caregivers of WRDSB students a wonderful summer. Thank you for your partnership in supporting their learning, growth and success this school year.

We can’t wait to see you all again on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

With our sincere thanks,

Maedith Radlein
