Happy Monday, Coronation Families!

I would like to begin by offering my apologies for missing last week’s school update. I experienced a brief setback in my recovery that required me to take additional time to rest. I am pleased to share that I have now returned to school and am hopeful to be back on a more consistent basis moving forward. Thank you, as always, for your understanding and continued support.

Updates from Last Week

Last Monday, we welcomed The Saidat Show to Coronation. Students in Grades 5/6 and 6 participated in an engaging leadership program that focused on confidence, perseverance, and positive leadership. In addition, students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 and Grades 4 to 6 took part in high-energy hip hop sessions that were both fun and empowering. We are looking forward to welcoming The Saidat Show back to Coronation during our Family Picnic in June.

School Food Drive

Mrs. Zettel-Lindner’s class is organizing a school food drive beginning today and running until January 27. Families are welcome to send in donations at any time during this period. Families attending our Family Literacy Night will also be encouraged to bring a donation for the food bank; participation is entirely optional. Thank you for your support in helping our students give back to the community.

Messages from the Office

Sledding & Sliding on Coronation Property

  1. Snow and hill conditions are monitored daily and will be closed when conditions are not safe.
  2. Snow hills on lower campus are open for junior students
  3. Snow piles on upper campus are open for primary students
  4. Available during nutrition breaks, gym, and DPA
  5. Students must slide feet first, sitting on their bottom.
  6. We look to ensure the hill is clear before sliding and we don’t touch others while we are on the hills or snow piles

Students choosing to play in the snow must wear:

  1. Snow pants and a winter jacket
  2. Winter boots
  3. Head and hand coverings

Families who may benefit from additional winter boots or clothing are encouraged to contact the main office.

We know our snow hills are a favourite spot for families during evenings and weekends. Please note:

  1. Hills are off-limits to the public during school hours
  2. No access before school or until 3:20 p.m. after school
  3. There is no supervision before or after school
  4. If using the hills outside school hours, please be mindful of hazards and sled at your own risk. We also ask that families help keep the grounds safe and clean for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you for supporting student safety.

Literacy Celebration & Family Literacy Night – Tuesday, January 27th

We are excited to invite families to our Family Literacy Night, taking place on Tuesday, January 27th, beginning at 5:30 PM and running until 7:00 PM in the Coronation Public School’s gym. This evening is designed to celebrate literacy in all its forms and to bring our school community together around reading, writing, communication and storytelling.

Our evening will include a guest author, a student Author’s and Illustrators Circle, meet with local community groups and engage in activities for the whole family to explore and celebrate Literacy.

We are thrilled to welcome Advocate and Author of the Soul Sistas series, Newton Vanriel. Newton has a passion for education and people and uses his power as an author to share about the power of acceptance through the eyes of The Soul Sista’s!!. He will be reading from his unreleased third book, Wannabee. During his visit, Newton will talk about why reading and writing matter, how books can shape ideas and identities, and will share examples of well-known writers, storytellers, and creators who use literacy to make an impact in the world. His message reinforces that reading and writing are powerful, meaningful, and for everyone.

Family Literacy Night will also feature our Student Author’s Circle, where selected students will have the opportunity to share their own writing, storytelling, or other forms of literacy expression with a live audience in a supportive and celebratory environment.

Permission forms for the Student Author’s Circle are going home today.

Families are encouraged to review the information carefully and return forms by the indicated deadline.

We look forward to celebrating literacy together and welcoming families for an evening of learning, creativity, and community.
