February 20th, 2026
Happy Friday, Coronation Families,
What an exciting week we have had at Coronation. With only four days, we crammed a lot of learning and fun into this week!
First and foremost, thank you to our School Council for hosting the Cool Cat Dance for the Gold today! It was an amazing event. Students each received a gold medal, and popcorn sales raised over $400 and Cool Cat made many appearances! Who knew Cool Cat had such great dance moves?
This week, we recognized the start of Ramadan, as well as both Lunar New Year and Losar.
Mrs. Prickett-Hart, Mrs. Hoff, and Ms. Hamel’s class participated in a Lunar New Year Dragon Dance throughout Coronation’s hallways today. They proudly shared the red and gold dragon puppet they constructed after learning about Lunar New Year. Please check out our Instagram for pictures!
This week was also our Staff Appreciation Week, and students got in on some of the action. As part of the fun, classes took part in a staff trivia challenge during our morning announcements. We learned that Mrs. Hacking loves wearing new socks, Mme Mehan has three pets, and Mrs. Casale has always wanted to learn how to play the drums.

Messages from the Office
Staffing Updates
We are pleased to welcome Mrs. Marie back to Coronation in her role as Grade 4/5B’s teacher and Primary Arts teacher. We also welcome back Custodian, Mr. Flett and Educational Assistant Mrs. Warren. At the same time, we extend our thanks to Mrs. Mann, who has been filling in for Mrs. Marie. We are happy to continue seeing Mrs. Mann in our school community as she transitions back into a supply teaching role.
Supervision and Nutrition Break Update
As part of our ongoing focus on student safety and well-being, we have made a few adjustments to supervision and outdoor boundaries during Nutrition Break.
We have added a supervision monitor in the hallway closest to the gym and bathrooms. This staff member is positioned in the hallway and is available should they have a concern while they are outside of class. Students are encouraged to step out and speak with the supervising adult if needed.
In addition, we have adjusted our outdoor boundaries on the lower campus. For the remainder of the winter, the area from the baseball diamonds back toward the soccer field will not be in use. These changes help us maintain safe, well-supervised spaces for all students during outdoor play.
Thank you for your continued support as we work to keep our students safe and supported.
Character Day – Next Week
Next Friday is our monthly spirit day! This month’s theme is Character Day. Students are invited to dress as their favourite (television, movie, storybook, etc.) character.
Please take the following into consideration for all Coronation spirit days:
- Costumes should not cover students’ faces, allowing students to see, communicate, and travel safely throughout the school
- Costumes should not portray violence or mature themes
- Costumes should not include weapons
- Costumes should not appropriate another’s culture, race, religion, etc.
- Please ensure your child is able to change in and out of their costume on their own should they need to.
This coming Friday, we will also gather as a school community for our monthly assembly. During the assembly, we will introduce the Grandfather Teaching of Truth, which will be our focus for the month of March. We will also consolidate our learning around the Grandfather Teaching of Love and take time to celebrate students deserving of recognition and class recipients of the Golden Boot, Golden Broom, and Golden Boomerang Awards.
Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration is now open for September 2026 with the Waterloo Region District School Board.
Families can register children born in 2021 (Senior Kindergarten) and 2022 (Junior Kindergarten) through the WRDSB website. Early registration helps schools plan for programming and supports a smooth transition to school. If you know a family with a child starting Kindergarten next year, please help spread the word.
For full details and to register, visit the WRDSB website.
Supporting Students During Ramadan
Students who are observing Ramadan will have access to a quiet and private space for prayer, as well as the option of a separate, comfortable space during the eating portion of Nutrition Break if they are fasting and choose to use it. Participation in these accommodations is always optional and guided by student comfort and family. If your child has specific needs or if you would like to discuss additional supports, please feel free to reach out to Principal Baer. We value working in partnership with families to ensure all students feel seen, respected, and supported.
