Hello Coronation families,
I hope you’ve had a happy, although very wet, weekend.
There have been some very exciting things happening over the weekend in the Coronation library. The chicken eggs we’ve had incubating in the library have begun to hatch. By mid Sunday afternoon two chicks had hatched and were excitedly “peeping” for their siblings to join them. A third chick had also begun to poke through its shell. Messages from the Office
Gently Used Clothing Swap
We are excited to offer the return of our Clothing Swap at our Family Picnic this year!
This is a great opportunity for families to donate gently used clothing and find items they may need — completely free of charge.
The Office will be accepting donations of clean, gently worn clothing (for all ages) between Monday, May 25th and June 8th.
During our Family Picnic, you will be invited to bring a bag to fill with items you can use. There is no requirement to donate in order to participate. Help us keep these items out of our landfill and pass them along to other families.
Please note: We will not accept socks, underwear, or accessories.
Coronation Family Picnic – Thursday, June 11 – 1:45 PM – 3:05 PM
We are excited to welcome families to Coronation’s annual Family Picnic on Thursday, June 11, as we celebrate the end of the 2025–2026 school year together! Families are invited to join us on the Primary Tarmac and Upper Campus beginning at 1:45 PM.
We encourage you to bring a blanket or something to sit on, refillable water bottles, and food or snacks for your family. Please note: there will be no food or beverage sales at this event.
Here’s what to look forward to:
- Time to relax and connect with your child and our school community
- Outdoor activities to enjoy together as a family
- Special Visitors Saidat, DJ K-Z, Spider Man & Cool Cat
- Clothing Swap in the gym

EQAO Assessments for Grade 3 Students
Beginning tomorrow, our Grade 3 students will participate in the provincial EQAO assessment of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. Developed by Ontario educators, these assessments are directly tied to the daily curriculum your child learns in class every day. Over the coming days, students will complete four language and four mathematics sessions, alongside a voluntary questionnaire. Each session takes about 30 minutes to complete in a single sitting. Please reassure your child that they do not need to prepare in any special way; our focus is on keeping the environment comfortable, familiar, and low-stress.
Individual student reports will be shared privately with families in the fall. These results do not affect your child’s report card or grades in any way. Instead, they offer a helpful snapshot of achievement against the provincial standard (Level 3 or a B- to B+ range), indicating a solid grasp of the skills needed for the next grade.

Important Library Message
We had a great year in the library this year. It is time to get the books back for summer.
Starting tomorrow, (May 25, 2026), the library will be limiting the amount of books students can borrow from our library. Students in Kindergarten, Grade 1 and 2 will be able to check out 2 books, Students in Grade 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be able to check out 3 books.
We ask that all books are returned no later than June 12, 2026.
If books are lost or damaged beyond repair (I can fix small tears and rips), we will be asking for a replacement cost of $5 for soft cover and $10 for hard cover to be paid on School Day.
Thank you in advance for ensuring all books have been found and returned by June 12th.

June 1st Spirit Assembly and Spirit Day,
Due to EQAO and the P.A. Day this Friday, our May Spirit Day and Assembly will be held on Monday, June 1st. Mrs Kovats and Mrs Pearle’s Grade ones will be performing and helping us celebrate the culmination of a year of learning and growth. Families of students in these classes are welcome to join us for the assembly. It will begin at 9:15 in the Gym. Parents and Guardians, you will be invited in through the front doors at 9:00 AM following our morning announcements.
Our Spirit Day is Cultural Pride Day. Students and Staff are invited to dress in a way that shows pride for their culture. Participation is not mandatory.
Invitation to Flag Raising
At 8:30 AM on Monday, June 1st, prior to the start of school, Coronation will be raising its Pride Flag in recognition of the start of Pride Month. Parents/guardians and their children are welcome to join staff at our flagpole just in front of Coronation for this short event. Participation is not required and students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Junior Track and Field at William G Davis this Tuesday
Families of students in grade 4, 5, and 6, please ensure all permission forms have been completed by Tuesday morning to ensure that your child can participate in this portion of the Physical Education Curriculum. Thank you to William G Davis for sharing their jump pits, field and track with Coronation students allowing them to have an authentic experience. Please note that only parents/guardians, selected to volunteer or support their child are invited to attend this event. Junior students invited to participate at Regionals at Jacob Hespeler High School are welcome to invite family members to cheer them on.
What School Staff Are Learning on the May 29 PA Day
Friday, May 29, 2026, is a professional activity (PA) day for elementary school staff.
Students in Kindergarten to Grade 8 will not attend school, in person or virtually
Students in Grades 9 to 12 will attend school on their regular schedule
All Board-operated Extended Day Programs will operate at reduced hours from 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Former Kinsman Child Care Centre Demolition
We have learned that the former Kinsman Centre is set for demolition on Monday, June 1st. At this time there is limited information, but we are actively communicating with the City in order to understand the impact this will have on our Lower Campus and we intend to share this information with families as soon its provided.
Extended Day Registration is Open!
Registration for Before and After School Programs operated by the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) will open on May 19, 2026.
Starting in the 2026-27 school year, registrations will be assessed using a new priority criteria. If your child is currently enrolled in a Before and After School Program for the 2025–2026 school year (as of May 1, 2026) and you register between May 19 and May 29, 2026, your registration will be considered in the priority placement.
