Happy Monday, Cool Cat Families,

Thank you for a wonderful first FULL week back at school last week.

It was a great week for staff and students alike. Students and classes are learning and practising entry, classroom, nutrition break, and dismissal routines while engaging in exciting team building and learning activities.

Highlights From Last Week

Each week I will share a few learning moments from our classes, with you:

Here are just a few examples of things that happened last week at Coronation:

Mrs Zettel-Lindner’s class has been spending time in our Courtyard. They have been using this space to explore living things. They’ve even brought items (i.e. pinecones, leaves, feathers etc.) back into the classroom to use as natural manipulatives for math learning.

Mrs Pearle and Ms Casale’s classes met last week as Learning Buddies for the first time. Together the grade 1s and 2s played a game with the grade 4s to help them get acquainted.

Mrs Taylor’s class has begun Special Me. Students in Ms Taylor’s class will each get the opportunity to be Special Me. They can bring in five special items to share, helping classmates get to know them better.

Mrs Jetter, Miss Crossey and Room 16 have been focusing on teamwork and cheering each other on. This past week they have been working through STEM challenges in small groups. First, they designed a tower to save ‘bears’ from the ‘lava’. Then, they used limited resources to create the longest paper chain. Their final challenge will be to build a bridge to get a car from one side to another.

Parents/Guardians

During this school year, an occupational Therapist (OT) and Physiotherapist (PT) from KidsAbility Centre for Child Development will once again be working with teachers and students in our school.

OTs and PTs are regulated health professionals who focus on improving daily living activities and ensuring safe mobility. An OT and PT will be in our school on a regular basis to support teachers in our classrooms, gym, and playground. This support is available to all classrooms.

OTs and PTs may visit your child’s classroom to observe. The OT or PT may suggest universal (general) strategies to the classroom teachers that can be used by all students. This OT consultation might look at how to improve self-care skills (like dressing for recess), cutting with scissors, pencil grasp/printing and ideas to help improve focus in the classroom (such as movement breaks). This PT coaching may address balance and coordination or participation in gym and on the playground. Your teacher may share ideas from the OT or PT for you to try at home.

Some students may benefit from more support from the OT or PT. This may include working with the OT or PT one-on-one or in a group at school. If your child may benefit from this individual support, your teacher will contact you to provide more information. You may also contact the teacher at any time if you feel your child might benefit from the OT or PT working with them.

If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact Ms Baer or your child’s teacher.

Spirit Wear

Cool Cat Spirit Wear is currently on sale at the following link: https://teamandspiritwear.com/CORONATION/shop/home

Volunteers

We continue to look for parents and guardians who would be interested in teaming with a Coronation educator to help facilitate a Cricket club during Nutrition Breaks.

If you are familiar with the game of cricket and would be interested in giving your time to help students to learn and appreciate the game, please reach out to Ms Baer directly.

Parking Lot Reminders

A reminder that our parking lot cannot be used for drop off or pick up. We ask that you please use Concession Road or Preston Mennonite Church to park and walk on to school property. We have many students and families walking through our parking lot and in order to keep everyone safe, we thank you for not parking in our school lot.
