Welcome back Coronation families,
I hope that you have had a wonderful and healthy summer. Coronation staff have been working hard to prepare for the 2026–2027 school year, and we are looking forward to welcoming our students back!
I will communicate with families each week through a Letter to Families, sent through School-Day and posted on our school website. I encourage families to subscribe to our website to stay up to date with information from Coronation and WRDSB.
Please note: School-Day access will reopen to families on Monday, September 7.
Below you will find important information to help your family prepare for the first day of school.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
When does my child start?
The first day of school for students is Tuesday, September 8.
Our school day begins at 8:45 a.m. and ends at 3:05 p.m.
On the first day, classroom teachers will be outside on the tarmac beginning at 8:30 a.m. Teachers will have signs showing their homeroom. Other Coronation staff will also be outside to help students and families find the correct teacher. Please look for staff wearing safety vests.
At 8:45 a.m., students will say goodbye to their families and head into the school with their classes.
Who is my child’s teacher?
Beginning September 7, families with a School-Day account can find their child’s homeroom:
- Log in to School-Day.http://www.school-day.com
- Click Schools and Groups on the blue menu.
- Click Your Classes.
- Look for your child’s homeroom. Homeroom names will look like K2, 1A, 4/5A, etc.
Once you know the homeroom, you can use the staff list below to find your child’s teacher.
If you do not have an account, please see the School-Day Guide on the WRDSB website for information about creating an account.
Please note that we are unable to accept requests for class changes. Thank you for your understanding.
HELPING YOUR CHILD START THE YEAR
Adjusting to New Routines
Starting a new school year can bring many different feelings for children. Some students may feel excited, while others may feel worried, nervous or unsure. This is normal.
Our staff will help your child feel safe, welcome and comfortable at school. For some children, saying goodbye at drop-off can be hard. Most children settle into their day once they enter the school, connect with their teacher and classmates, and begin their classroom routines.
A short and positive goodbye can help your child with this transition. If your child continues to have a difficult time after you leave, we will support them. If we are concerned about how your child is doing, we will contact you so that we can work together to support them.
What should my child bring?
Please send your child with:
- A change of clothes in a labelled zip-lock bag
- Indoor and outdoor shoes
- A refillable water bottle
- Food and snacks for two Nutrition Breaks
- A backpack or another way to carry their belongings
What should stay at home?
Please leave the following items at home:
- Toys, sports equipment and other personal items
- Nut and peanut products
- Heavily scented products
- Personal mobile devices whenever possible
We cannot be responsible for personal items that are lost or damaged.
Weapons, alcohol, smoking or vaping materials, and drugs are not permitted on school property.
DURING THE SCHOOL DAY
Nutrition Breaks
Nutrition Breaks take place twice each day at 10:45 a.m. and 1:25 p.m.
During each Nutrition Break:
- Primary students eat in their classrooms for the first 20 minutes while Junior students play outside.
- The groups then switch. Junior students eat while Primary students play outside.
- The Upper Campus is used for outdoor Nutrition Breaks.
Kindergarten students remain in their classrooms to eat and have up to 75 minutes of Outdoor Learning scheduled throughout their school day.
Boomerang Lunch
We will continue our Boomerang Lunch. Food waste and packaging will be returned home in your child’s lunch bag for disposal.
We know this can sometimes be messy. Reusable containers with secure lids or baggies for containers can help keep lunch bags clean.
COMMUNICATING WITH SCHOOL
Good communication between home and school is very important. We want to work together with families to help every child be successful.
During the school day, teachers need to focus on teaching and caring for their students. They are not able to answer phone calls or regularly check and respond to email while they are with their class.
If you need to send an important message to your child or their teacher during the school day, please call the main office at 519-653-1141. This is the fastest way to make sure your message is received.
For messages that are not urgent, you are welcome to email your child’s teacher. Teachers will read and respond to emails in a timely manner when they are not teaching or supervising students.
Cell Phones and Personal Devices
Students are not permitted to use personal mobile devices, including cell phones and smart watches, during school hours.
We encourage students to leave these devices at home whenever possible. If a device is brought to school, it must be powered off and kept in the student’s backpack. Students may also leave their device at the main office for the day.
If you need to contact your child during the school day, please call the main office rather than contacting your child’s personal device.
ATTENDANCE, LATES & APPOINTMENTS
If your child will be absent

If your child is late
Students arriving late must enter through the main entrance and be signed in at the main office.
Picking up your child during the school day
Please come to the main office through the main entrance.
Please allow a short amount of time for us to contact your child’s classroom and for your child to come to the office. Calling ahead or emailing the classroom teacher in advance can help us have your child ready on time.
HEALTH & MEDICATION
All prescription and over-the-counter medication must be kept and administered at the main office and must have a completed Medication Administration Form.
If your child requires medication during the school day, please contact the main office.
Students with a Plan of Care for anaphylaxis or another significant medical condition will bring their Plan of Care home for families to review and return to the office as soon as possible.
If your child is new to Coronation or has recently developed a significant medical condition, please contact the office so that we can put the appropriate Plan of Care in place.
SAFETY REMINDERS
Parking Lot
Our parking lot is for staff only. Those with an accessible parking pass may also use our parking lot.
When dropping off or picking up your child, please park on a nearby side street and walk onto school property. Families may park along Concession Road or at Fairview Mennonite Church.
Dogs on School Property
Dogs are not permitted on school property during school hours.
If you bring your dog when walking your child to or from school, please remain with your dog on the sidewalk off school property.
