Hello Coronation families,

It has been another wonderful week of learning and connection here at Coronation!

First, I want to highlight some of the incredible work happening in our classrooms. The students in Room 9 have been working so hard on creative “pizza box projects” to showcase everything they have learned about Canada. It was wonderful to have so many other classes walk through their room to view the projects, ask questions, and celebrate their learning. If you would like to see some pictures of their great work, please check out our Instagram page at @corwrdsb.

We are also thrilled to share that our School Council has officially launched a new Craft Club! The club meets on Thursdays during the first nutrition break and will alternate each week between our Grade 1 and Grade 2 students. We had our very first session last week, and it was a huge success. This coming Thursday will be our Grade 2 students’ opportunity to join in the fun and get creative.

We are so excited to share that Ms. Taylor and Mrs. Tabby are hosting a Spring Book Battle for our students. Together, they have carefully selected eight wonderful picture books for our classes to read and enjoy. Throughout the battle, students have the opportunity to read the books and vote for their favourites, deciding which stories advance to the next bracket. To make the books more accessible each title can be found on YouTube as a read-aloud. Please check out our Instagram page at @corwrdsb to see which books have officially advanced to the second round. You can also find the titles there if you would like to look them up and watch the read-alouds together at home on YouTube. This is such a fun and engaging way to encourage a love of reading in our classrooms. We cannot wait to see which book our students choose as the ultimate winner of the Spring Book Battle.

Messages from the Office

Early Pick UpsEarly Pick-Up Reminders

As we work to ensure smooth transitions for our students, we have a quick reminder regarding early pick-ups.

If you know in advance that you will be picking up your child before the end of the school day, we kindly request that you send a message to their classroom teacher. This advance notice is incredibly helpful, as it allows the teacher to make sure your child is packed up and ready to go for your arrival time.

We completely understand that plans can sometimes change unexpectedly. If you need to call or drop by the office for a last minute early pick-up, please anticipate a short wait. It takes a few moments for us to communicate with the classroom and give your child the time they need to wrap up their learning task, gather their belongings, and safely make their way down to the office.

Thank you so much for your continued support and understanding as we work together to keep our school days running smoothly.

Step Afrika! At the Centre in the Square

On April 30 in the afternoon, students in Grades 3–6 will be attending a performance by Step Afrika! This is a high-energy performance group that uses stepping, dance, music, and storytelling to create an interactive experience. Stepping is a style of dance where performers use their hands and feet to make rhythms and sounds while moving together in very precise and athletic ways.

Step Afrika! combines traditional African dance with modern movement, music, and humour. Students will have the opportunity to experience this exciting performance as part of our arts and culture programming. We are thrilled to share that thanks to Coronation’s recent fundraising efforts, the cost of both the event and transportation is completely covered.

Permission forms were sent out last week and are now posted on School Day for you to complete.

We have limited space for family volunteers to join us for this trip, and spots will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are interested in volunteering, please ensure you have an up to date Vulnerable Sector Check on file with the school and reach out directly to Principal Baer jenni-rebecca_baer@wrdsb.ca or Office Manager Cabral alaena_cabral@wrdsb.ca. Principal Baer will connect with all volunteers directly to confirm.

New Community Sports Partnerships

We are thrilled to share that Coronation is partnering with Revive Basketball to offer students in Grades 5 and 6 an opportunity to develop their basketball skills during nutrition breaks and after school.

In addition to this partnership, we are also collaborating with the Cambridge Cricket Club and Galt Collegiate Institute to launch a new Cricket Club for our students!

We are currently finalizing the schedules and details for both of these fantastic programs. Please stay tuned—more information on how to get involved will be shared with families in the coming weeks.

2026–2027 Enrollment and Class Placements

Thank you to the families who have already submitted class placement requests! Principal Baer continues to go through these requests and will connect with families directly by email to confirm receipt.

As we plan for next year, please let the office know as soon as possible if your family is moving in or out of the Coronation area, as this helps us accurately plan our classes and staffing.

We will continue accepting class placement requests until the end of April. If you would like to share information to help us support your child’s placement, please submit it ONLY via this Google Form: https://forms.gle/RoegQSi7L5gM1nBA8 or by emailing Principal Baer directly at jenni-rebecca_baer@wrdsb.ca. (Please note: requests sent directly to classroom teachers may not be considered).

A quick reminder: While we carefully consider all family input, specific placements are not guaranteed. Staff assignments and class structures (including split grades) are ultimately determined by enrollment numbers. Thank you for your understanding!
