To those who celebrated Eid al-Adha last week, I hope you had a joyful celebration.
It’s hard to believe we are in the last month of school.

Beginning on Monday we welcome Mrs. Kanchan Dandona in the role of Educational Assistant to Coronation for the remainder of the school year.
A Busy Monday Morning at Coronation: June 1st
We have an exciting start to the week this Monday with three special events happening on school property.
Pride Flag Raising (8:30 AM)
In recognition of the start of Pride Month, Coronation will be raising the Pride Flag before school begins.
- Details: Families and children are welcome to join staff at the flagpole in front of the school at 8:30 AM for this brief event
- Note: Participation is completely optional, and all students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian
Cultural Pride Spirit Day
Monday is our Cultural Pride Spirit Day! Students and staff are invited to dress in a way that shows pride in their culture, background, or heritage.
Note: As with all our spirit days, participation is welcomed but not mandatory.
May Spirit Assembly, in June (9:15 AM)
We are celebrating a wonderful year of learning and growth in the gymnasium! This assembly features O’Canada and Reconnaissance du territoire from Mme Greenwood’s French classes, a special performance by the Glee Club, as well as Mrs. Kovats and Mrs. Pearle’s Grade 1 classes.
- For Families: Parents and guardians of the students participating in the performances are warmly invited to attend
- Timing: The front doors will open for guests at 9:00 AM right after morning announcements, and the assembly will begin at 9:15 AM and run for approximately an hour
WE NEED YOUR CLOTHING DONATIONS!
We are hosting a completely free Clothing Swap at our upcoming Family Picnic, and we need your help to stock the tables!
- WHAT WE NEED: Clean, gently worn clothing for all ages and sizes
- WHEN TO DROP OFF: Bring your clothing donations to the Main Office between now and June 8th.
- HOW IT WORKS: At the picnic, anyone can bring a bag and take home items they need for free. There is zero requirement to donate in order to participate, this is about community care and keeping clothes out of landfills
- Please note: We cannot accept socks, underwear, or accessories
Former Kinsman Child Care Centre Demolition
The demolition of the former Kinsman Centre will be delayed until school has ended for the school year. The city will begin work to prepare for the demolition, but they have agreed to postpone any major actions to ensure our students continue to have access to the Lower Campus for nutrition breaks.
Coronation Family Picnic: Thursday, June 11 (1:45 PM – 3:05 PM)
Join us on the Primary Tarmac and Upper Campus as we celebrate the end of the school year together!
What to Bring:
- A picnic blanket or lawn chairs
- Refillable water bottles
- Snacks/food for your family (Note: there will be no food or beverage sales)
Event Highlights:
- Relax and connect with our school community
- Fun outdoor family activities
- Special Visitors: Saidat, DJ K-Z, Spider-Man, and Cool Cat!
- Free Clothing Swap in the gym
RSVP’s will be coming home on Monday. Please complete and return these as soon as possible. We can’t wait to see you there!
Safety First: Wheeled Items on School Property
To keep our walkways and tarmac safe for everyone, we kindly remind all families that bikes, trikes, scooters, skateboards and other wheeled items must be walked or carried the moment you arrive on school property.
Before, During, and After School: Thank you for refraining from riding wheeled items on school grounds during the school day. This is especially critical during our high-traffic morning arrival (8:15 AM – 8:45 AM) and afternoon dismissal (2:55 PM – 3:20 PM) when our tarmacs and sidewalks are packed with students and families.
Storage: We have convenient bike and scooter racks located on our Junior Tarmac for students to safely lock up their items during the school day.

Volunteer Opportunity: Strong Start Site Coordinator Needed for 2026-27!
Coronation is looking for a dedicated volunteer to step into the incredibly rewarding role of Strong Start Site Coordinator for the upcoming school year. Strong Start is a fantastic Canadian charity that partners with schools to help young children master essential early literacy skills and become lifelong readers.
This is an unpaid, volunteer position that makes a massive, direct impact on our youngest learners.
What the Site Coordinator Does:
- Coordinates with classroom teachers to select children for the program.
- Secures parent/guardian permissions.
- Recruits, schedules, and supervises community volunteers over the 10-week program.
- Arranges quick student pre- and post-assessments.
- Submits final program reports and helps recognize our wonderful volunteers.
Support & Training Provided: You will not be doing this alone! You will receive comprehensive support manuals, and new coordinators complete a straightforward, 2-hour online training session to ensure you feel confident and set up for success.
If you are organized, passionate about helping children succeed, and want to make a meaningful difference in our school community, we want to hear from you!

Grade 6 EQAO Assessments Begin Tuesday!
Following our Grade 3 students who successfully wrapped up their testing last week, our Grade 6 students will begin their provincial EQAO assessments this Tuesday.
- What to Expect: Students will complete four language and four mathematics sessions (about 30 minutes each). They will also complete a voluntary questionnaire.
- No Special Prep Needed: Please reassure your child that no extra studying is required. We are focused on keeping the classroom environment familiar, comfortable, and low-stress.
- The Results: Individual reports will be shared privately with families in the fall. These do not affect your child’s report card or grades; they simply offer a helpful snapshot of achievement against provincial standards.
