MESSAGES FROM THE OFFICE

Welcome & Farewell

Last week we said farewell to Mrs Tabby our library Clerk as she moved into a new position with Facility Services. We look forward to announcing our new library clerk soon.

We also said farewell to Ms B. who had been filling in while we hired a DECE for K1 and our afternoon Extended Day program.

We are happy to welcome Ms. Becky Whetham who will be joining the team in K1 and supporting the afternoon extended day program starting tomorrow!

Student Information Forms

Please ensure you have completed the following forms on School Day:

Student Data Verification Forms (DVF) should be reviewed and returned to the office as soon as possible. Please note, if you have indicated changes to citizenship on the DVF, an appointment must be made with the office to verify the documents.

Health and Medication

If your child has a Plan of Care (anaphylaxis or significant medical conditions), a draft plan has been sent home for review. Please review it, include any changes or corrections and return it to school as soon as possible. Students who are new to Coronation may not have received their draft plan of care at this time.

If your child is new or has recently developed a significant medical condition, please inform the office in order for a Plan of Care to be put into place.

All prescription and over-the-counter medication must be kept and administered at the main office and must have a completed Medication Administration Form.

If your child requires medication during the school day, please contact the main office.

Stinging Insects

With this time of year comes an increased presence of wasps and bees. Last week, a large wasp nest was discovered in a tree in our upper field. We responded quickly by adding a caution tape barrier, communicating new outside boundaries to students, and following the steps to have the nest removed. Custodian Flett has continued to monitor the location of the nest and follow up with appropriate measures to ensure the wasps do not rebuild. The caution tape will remain in place until the remaining wasps have moved on.

Students have been told to tell a staff member immediately if they notice any future nests as well as to keep a safe distance and not to throw rocks or other items at any insect hive or nest. Please feel free to reinforce this message at home.

Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)

If your child has an IEP, please expect to receive a letter this coming week inviting your input. Families will be invited to choose from an in-person or virtual meeting at school or to provide input through a form or through email.

If families have questions regarding their child’s IEP, we invite you to begin by connecting with your child’s teacher.

Cell Phones and Smart Watches

Students are not permitted to use personal mobile devices, including cell phones and smart watches, during school hours.

We encourage students to leave these devices at home whenever possible. If a device is brought to school, it must be powered off and kept in the student’s backpack. Students may also leave their device at the main office for the day.

If you need to contact your child during the school day, please call the main office rather than contacting your child’s personal device.

Langs Lunch and Games Club

Our partnership with Langs continues this year, returning to Coronation beginning Wednesday, September 23rd. Community Youth Worker, Julia Louro will be leading the club which will be available for students in grade 4, 5, and 6. Based on student interest and if space allows, we may open the club to students in grade 3.

Permission forms will be sent home this week and must be returned prior to September 23rd.

The Saidat Show Returns to Coronation

Coronation welcomes back Saidat and DJ K-Z on September 23rd for two assemblies (K-3 & 4-6). Included this year, following the assemblies students will participate in a 20 minute Hip Hop dance lesson.

This year’s assemblies have the following themes:

K–3 School Spirit Day: The Kindness Challenge
An engaging assembly that helps students see school spirit as more than cheering and celebrating — it’s also about how we care for ourselves, our school and each other. Through music, movement and interactive challenges, students explore the message Move Your Body. Train Your Mind. Be Kind. while practising helpful thoughts, recognizing what helps them feel better, and choosing simple acts of kindness they can use throughout the school day.

Grades 4–8 What’s This Have To Do With Me?
An interactive assembly about empathy, self-care and making positive choices. Through music, humour and audience participation, students discover how their words and actions impact others — including in The Ultimate Compliment Challenge, where teams compete to build each other up.
