MESSAGES FROM THE OFFICE
Welcome
Coronation is happy to introduce and welcome our new Library Clerk, Mrs. Nadeera Karunaratne. Mrs. Karunaratne is happy to join the Cool Cat team both in the library as well as in the main office.
Stinging Insects
Thank you to Mr. Flett who has helped to remove the large wasps nest from our upper field. We have noticed an increase in bees in and around our garbage dumpster. Please be aware as you travel on our upper tarmac as we work to resolve this problem.
Scooters, Bicycles, Skateboards & Electric or Motorized Transportation
Students travelling to and from school on a bicycle, scooter, skateboard, or other wheeled transportation are required to wear a helmet. All transportation must be dismounted on property and walked to the bicycle and scooter racks on the North (Junior) side of the school. We encourage students to bring a lock to secure their bike/scooter. 3-digit locks can be purchased at the office for $3.00.
Electric and motorized scooters, bicycles and other transportation are not permitted on school tarmac or field areas and are not permitted to be used by those under the age of 16 years old. Adults using these forms of transportation will be asked to lock up their transportation at the bike rack in the school parking lot.
Pizza and Booster Juice Lunches
A reminder that October Dominos Pizza and Booster Juice Lunch Orders are currently for sale on School Day. Orders must be placed this week for the entire month.
Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
Families who received a letter requesting preferences for IEP input last week, please ensure this letter is returned to school as soon as possible. We are currently in the process of scheduling and communicating family conferences. If you requested to provide written input, please anticipate a paper form to come home soon.
Langs Lunch and Games Club
We had a very positive response from grade 4, 5, and 6 students about Langs Lunch and Games club. So much so we are welcoming grade 3s to participate as well. Forms were sent home last week inviting grade 3s to join our Wednesday club led by Community Youth Worker, Julia Louro. Due to the great response our club will be divided into two groups with grade 5 and 6 students starting this Wednesday, September 23rd and grade 3 and 4 students on Wednesday, September 30th. Permission forms for grade 3s must be returned prior to September 30th.
Cool Cat Open House
Our Meet the Staff Open House happens this Wednesday, September 23rd from 5:30 until 6:45.
Langs will also be joining us for this event.
Bring your appetite! Dominos Pizza will be joining us selling XL Slices (two regular slices)for $5.00 each and drinks for $2.00 each. Cash sales only, please. There are NO pre-orders.
Please note that staff will be joining families from 5:30 – 6:00 PM outside for pizza and to connect with the community.
Classrooms and our school will be open from 6:00 – 6:45 PM allowing families to visit classrooms and tour the school.
In case of rain, we will be meeting in the gym with doors open from the back of the school.
Friday’s Spirit Day
Friday is our first spirit dress up day of the school year. Dress up days are completely optional and should not require any additional purchases or cost. We encourage participating families to use clothing and items from home for costumes. This month’s theme is “When I Grow Up, I Want to Be…” and students are encouraged to dress for their future career or role.
Please note the following expectations for all Coronation spirit and dress up days:
- Costumes should not cover students’ faces, allowing students to see, communicate, and travel safely throughout the school
- Costumes should not portray violence, gore, or mature themes
- Costumes should not include weapons
- Costumes should not be disrespectful towards or appropriate another’s culture, background, race, religion, or identity.
- Students should be able to change in and out of their costume independently.
Terry Fox Run
On Monday, September 28th, Coronation students and staff will be participating in our annual Terry Fox Run and Fundraiser, “Toonies for Terry,” to raise money for cancer research.
On Monday, September 28th, please ensure that your child wears running shoes, has a water bottle, and is dressed for the weather. We are also asking everyone to wear red to show their support.
