MESSAGES FROM THE OFFICE

What School Staff Are Learning on the October 26 PD Day

Monday, October 26, 2026, is a professional development (PD) day for elementary and secondary school staff.

Students will not attend school, in person or virtually

All Waterloo Region District School Board-operated Extended Day and Youth Development programs will be closed

PD days are held throughout the school year to provide learning opportunities for school-based staff. This professional learning focuses on providing educators and staff with the knowledge and skills needed to support and enhance student achievement and well being.

End-of-day Dismissal Procedures

In an effort to help ensure student safety and a smooth dismissal for everyone, please assist us by following these guidelines:

Arriving on School Property Before Dismissal

Families arriving before the end of the school day are asked to remain on the tarmac outside their child’s designated entry and exit door.

Some of our Kindergarten classes participate in outdoor learning at the end of the day and use our green space, including the field and stone area, as outdoor classrooms. We ask that families remain off these spaces until the dismissal bell rings at 3:05 p.m. This allows our classes to continue their learning without interruption and ensures staff can safely supervise students.

Student Dismissal

Classes do not begin dismissing students until the 3:05 p.m. bell.

If you need to pick up your child before 3:05 p.m., please enter through the main office to sign your child out. Students should not be picked up from outdoor learning spaces prior to dismissal.

Extended Day Students

If your child is registered to attend Extended Day and your plans change, please ensure that Extended Day staff are aware.

Families are asked to either:

  • Communicate directly with Extended Day staff ahead of time if their child will not be attending.
  • If meeting their child at regular dismissal, walk with them to Extended Day to let staff know they are being signed out.

This communication is important to ensure that all students are accounted for and that our attendance and dismissal procedures are followed.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us maintain safe, organized and consistent dismissal routines for all Coronation students.

Coronation Needs A New Playground – Value Village Fundraiser

We continue to collect donations for our Value Village Fundraiser until the end of November! Thank you to those who have already dropped off donations for our fundraiser.

Remember that we get paid by the pound for soft items like clothing, bedding, and other household textiles and hard items like household goods, VHS, CDs, magazines, books and small appliances.

Please help us by gathering items from family and friends and drop them off at Coronation. When packing up your donations, please sort goods into soft and hard items.

Join Our School Council

The Coronation School Council has its first meeting in two weeks. We encourage you to join us.

We have a short survey for Coronation Parents and Guardians regarding our School Council. This survey asks about your interest in Council and also includes nomination forms for our elected positions. https://forms.gle/uDRnaNQujKQYZhdJ7

At our first meeting on October 28 at 6 PM in our library, we will be voting for our Co Chairs, Secretary, and Treasurer.

If you’d like to join us virtually, please join us through Google Meet at the following link: https://meet.google.com/qai-rinc-cxy

Halloween Costumes & Spirit Days

Halloween is coming up and many students and families enjoy celebrating. Students are welcome to wear a costume on our Friday, October 30th Spirit Day “Guess Who” should they wish to.

Please take the following into consideration for all Coronation spirit days:

  • Costumes should not cover students’ faces, allowing students to see, communicate, and travel safely throughout the school
  • Costumes should not portray violence or mature themes
  • Costumes should not include weapons
  • Costumes should not make fun of another’s culture, race, religion, ability, etc.
  • Please ensure your child is able to change in and out of their costume on their own should they need to.

A Message About Treats

Throughout the school year, we have many opportunities to celebrate special events as a school community. In the past, some families have requested to sent treats for the class, and while we appreciate the gesture, we kindly ask that families not send treats (edible or non-edible) for birthdays, Halloween, Valentines day, or other events. This aligns with our commitment to promoting equity, ensuring the safety of students with allergies, and encouraging healthy eating habits in line with Canada’s Food Guide. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
